New Theatre Company Opens in Farmingdale, Long Island

Hardscrabble Theater, a new theatrical venture in Long Island, will bring live theatre to Farmingdale this Spring at the hands of Farmingdale residents Joseph V. DiPietro and Eva Dolan. The two theatre professionals are collaborating with St Thomas Episcopal Church to bring back live theater to their community. The new group announced that their first production, the timeless comedy, ‘Arsenic and Old Lace," will open in the Spring.

DiPietro is a playwright and actor, and Ms. Dolan has spent her life in the theater both acting and producing. Church Rector, Dan Petersen-Snyder, of St Thomas, has a Masters Degree from NYU in Stage Design and Lighting.

Director, Evan Donnellan, is well known for his Summer Shakespeare productions at the Vanderbilt Mansion, as well as having a long time association with both the Arena Players and the Minstrel Players.

Hardscrabble Theater is assembling a fine cast of seasoned performers and will be holdng auditions at the theater on Sunday, March 5th at 3pm as well as Monday, March 6th at 7pm. They are also seeking anyone interested in set building, costumes, props or sound design to attend and sign up for those positions.

The establishment of the theater is the culmination of five years of work, which began when Joe and Eva moved to Farmingdale and fell in love with Broman Hall, located on the grounds of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The location, they felt, provides the ideal venue. Its proximity to Main Street, as well as the LIRR, makes it easily accessible.
