In the story, Prentiss Jones III makes a deal with Ronnie, the prison cook, to trade medicine for food. Things go wrong. Ronnie turns out to be Prentiss's nemesis as well as guardian. Like the incarcerated men it portrays, D.O.C is one tough cynical, comical and poetic piece of work.
