Playwright Profile: Sohailla Mahjour at Winterfest 2017

It's one thing to be a young, talented playwright. But to create and perform a one-woman show at one of New York's major Theatre Festivals (Winterfest 2017, formerly the Venus Adonis Theatre Festival), is a big deal.
Meet the star of the new play, RAGHS, opening next week at the Winterfest Festival!
Sohailla Mahjour (Actress, Playwright) has always loved performing for an audience.
She found her niche for storytelling as a child reenacting Disney movies and imitating
her charming Iranian father. In California, Sohailla worked with Shakespeare in the
Schools, performing Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It for underprivileged
elementary schools. This experience encouraged her to move to New York City where
she graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A in acting.
Upon graduation, Sohailla returned to working in children’s theater performing Sleeping
Beauty (Doutches Von Verysnoot) and The Wizard of Oz (Monkey). Currently, Sohailla
works as a television personality for The Dog Show (thedogshow.org) where she
attends several dog rescue, adoption and fashion events such as Adoptapaloza, Best
Friends Super Adoption, The Mermaid Parade and The Christmas Fashion Show.
Sohailla Mahjour is excited to debut her one-woman show with her director, friend and
colleague Pati Amoroso! sohaillamahjour@gmail.com
Sohailla Mahjour stars in “RAGHS”!
This one woman show about tells the story of an Iranian American girl who falls in love with an older Iranian cousin. He, in turn, cannot be entirely himself in Iran. In this journey of cultural differences and heartbreaking losses, Sarina floats from childhood to woman naively believing in a love that could unknowingly be a mere ticket to America.
Under the brilliant direction of Pati Amoroso, “RAGHS” uses music and Iranian movement to tell this story of new-fangled love.
“RAGHS”, which means ‘dance’ in Farsi, will make its NYC debut at the Winterfest Theater Festival: January 26 at 9PM, January 28 at 1PM, January 29 at 6PM.
