Playwright Profile: Jake Kevrick at Winterfest 2017
Meet Jake Kevrick, He is 23 and attending his last year at Webster University in St. Louis with a BA in Playwriting and World Drama. He is also one of the participants of the 2017 Winterfest Theater Festival, formerly the Venus Adonis Theater Festival.
“I currently reside in St. Louis City; a place that has shown me so much light and love over the years,” says the young playwright “For as long as I can remember, I have been bewitched by storytelling. Creating worlds for others to get lost in has always been a dream of mine. I strive to tell compelling and honest stories with characters of all shapes and sizes. Everybody has a voice and a story. I make it my job to tell those stories in new, innovative ways. I have written a plethora of different plays, all of them unique. I teach the GED program at St. Louis Community College where I meet people that change my life every day. I sing every chance I get and I think acting is one of the most astounding art forms in existence. I have never been afraid to use my voice and my passion to stand up for what I believe in and I will continue to do just that. The beauty of this planet is what makes my heart beat and as long as my heart is beating I will forever be inspired. As long as I’m inspired, I’m determined to tell my stories one voice at a time.”
Jake is thrilled to be opening his third show in New York City. Other shows of his include Forgetting Dick and Jane (Thespis Theatre Festival) and Honeysuckle Epidemic (EAT New Works Lab). His St. Louis credits include Ribbon Candy and Freedom, Revolt, and Love (Envisage Play Festival). Jake also proudly interns with a St. Louis/New York based company; That Uppity Theatre Company as their literary and office manager. He thanks his incredibly talented cast and crew for breathing life into Two Conceive.
Two Conceive is a play about the battle between our age old attachment to God and the growing advancement of technology. With the decision of a lifetime looming, desires unwinding and a secret experiment that dares to come to completion, Callum and Scottlund must put their differences aside to partake in the most consequential medical breakthrough of our time.
